Suspect Arrested In Connection With A Kailua-Kona Bank Robbery

KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii — Hawaii Island Police have arrested a suspect during the course of a bank robbery investigation Thursday afternoon.

At approximately 3:24 p.m. according to a Hawaii Police Department media release, officers responded to an active bank robbery at a financial institution in the 75-5600 block of Palani Road in Kailua-Kona.

The male suspect entered the bank and produced a note demanding money before fleeing the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. No injuries were reported during the course of the robbery.

Officers identified Brandan Patrick Nicholson, 44, of Kailua-Kona as the suspect upon further review of video surveillance and interviewing witnesses. Nicholson was taken into custody yesterday around 4:30 p.m. although as of today, no charges have been filed against him.

UPDATE, August 30, 2024, 7:32 p.m. HST: After authorities continued their investigation and conferred with the Hawaii County Prosecutor’s office, Nicholson has been charged with second-degree robbery, second-degree theft, and an outstanding bench warrant. The robbery charge, the most serious arising out of this incident, is a Class B Felony and punishable by up to 10 years in prison. Bail for Nicholson was set at $125,000.
