Video Allegedly Shows Comedian Doug Stanhope Being Detained At His Arizona Residence By Cochise County Sheriff’s Deputies During Instagram Live Stream
BISBEE, Ariz. — A four-minute video posted by X user @TerryMartindale earlier this afternoon baffled Internet users today, as it allegedly shows comedian Doug Stanhope being detained by Cochise County Sheriff’s deputies at his home during an Instagram Live stream.
Men who appear to be Sheriff’s deputies in the video command Stanhope to get on his knees and put his hands behind his head, shuffle backwards, and turn around before allowing him to stand up and be led outside by one of the deputies.
An apparently distressed Stanhope can be heard saying “Relax dude!” about a minute into the video as he leaves the camera’s view.
According to recently updated information from the Cochise County Sheriff Office Public Information branch, Stanhope has not been booked in the county jail on any charges.
The lack of any official information on the incident prompted wild speculation online, including several Reddit users dismissing the video as a staged hoax, some of whom pointed out that the deputies in the video appear to be carrying guns without any magazines in them.
This story will be updated as soon as more information surrounding the alleged incident can be independently verified.
UPDATE, August 29, 2024 9:50 a.m. HST: According to a recent article posted by entertainment news site TMZ, Stanhope was not detained or arrested, but instead allowed Cochise County law enforcement to conduct a training exercise at his home. TMZ says it has confirmed this with a Cochise County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson.
UPDATE, August 29, 2024 11:49 a.m. HST: Doug Stanhope himself confirmed the training exercise in a video statement.
