Low Pressure System Could Form Into Tropical Depression This Week
HONOLULU — The National Hurricane Center is reporting an area of low pressure approximately 1050 miles southeast of Hilo, Hawaii that could form into a tropical depression within the next 7 days. This system is currently producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms and moving west at 5 to 10 miles per hour.
According to the agency’s Central North Pacific Tropical Weather Outlook, the chances of a tropical depression forming hover at 60 percent for the next 48 hours, and 70 percent for the next 7 days.

UPDATE, September 23, 2024 11:30 a.m. HST: The chance of a tropical depression forming out of the low pressure system currently located about 1000 miles south of Hilo, Hawaii has dropped to 30 percent over the next 7 days. According to the latest Central North Pacific Tropical Weather Outlook, upper level winds are creating unfavorable conditions for tropical depression formation out of this system. The area of low pressure continues to produce disorganized showers and thunderstorms and move west at 5 to 10 miles per hour.
UPDATE, September 24, 2024 8:56 a.m. HST: The chance of a tropical depression forming out of the low pressure system south of Hawaii Island has dropped to near 0 percent over the next 7 days, according to the latest Central North Pacific Tropical Weather Outlook.
